About Our Curriculum

The curriculum at Spartan Child Development Center is play based and child directed. This means that our teachers build their lesson plans on the children’s interests and the questions they are asking. As our children’s first introduction to education, we strive to nourish their curiosity and wonder, make learning an enjoyable experience, and form lasting positive attitudes toward school.

Diversity is another important part of our philosophy at SCDC. Teachers set up their classrooms based on the unique individual needs of each of their students. Lesson plans include awareness of cultural, economic, physical, emotional, cognitive, and language differences. Families are encouraged to volunteer in the classrooms, sharing cooking experiences, reading stories, talking about their careers or hobbies, and introducing their language and culture to the children.

We believe children learn best when they can touch and experience the subject matter. Classrooms often take fieldtrips throughout the year and invite special guests and organizations into the center, as well as use our multipurpose room and the outdoors as an extension of their classroom. Teachers encourage the children to ask questions, and then discover ways to answer those questions. We endeavor to showcase the strides our students are making through regular assessments, daily parent conversations, and pictures and documentation, as well as the children’s own journaling.
