Position Descriptions




Lead/Assistant Teachers:

SCDC Lead Teachers are degreed professionals whose background and education show a strong history in child development and education. Our Assistant Teachers are also experienced care giving professionals with at least an Associate’s degree in a related field. Many of our professional staff go on to receive advanced degrees in child related fields.

The requirements for consideration for a professional teaching position in our center are:

          •  Minimum of 2 years of college level coursework in Child Development, Education or related areas of study;
          •  Experience with children in a group care setting;
          •  Knowledge of teaching and activity methods used with children during various stages of development;
             materials/equipment used in group settings of young children;
             principles of child development and behavior of individual children;
             positive discipline and redirection techniques;
          •  Bachelor’s degree in child development or related field is preferred; AND
          •  Strong character and work ethic.

 

Professional Teacher Substitutes:

Professional Teacher Substitutes act as the professional in center classrooms in the absence of the lead or assistant teacher. These individuals are typically junior or senior level college students with backgrounds in child development or education or seasoned professionals with experience in group child care settings.

Substitutes share the same tasks as Aide Staff members plus the additional responsibilities that a classroom teacher would carry. They must be able to:

          •  plan age appropriate classroom activities,
          •  lead the classroom during the day including transition times from one activity to another,
          •  can be responsible for reporting about children’s day to families,
          •  administer medication,
          •  ensure the safety and well-being of entire classroom during the day,
          •  demonstrate strong character and ethics

 

Teacher Aide Staff:

Teacher Aide staff members are typically college students majoring in Child Development, Education or related areas of study. Many come from backgrounds in care giving at child development centers, camps, or in private homes.

We are always looking for proactive, reliable, professional, and energetic employees with an interest in creating a positive learning and social environment for our enrolled children.

Teacher Aide staff will assist with all classroom functions including, but not limited to:

          •  monitoring and interacting with children;
          •  helping clean and sanitize classroom surfaces;
          •  setting up and cleaning for mealtimes, if necessary helping with feeding;
          •  diapering;
          •  assist with leading classroom activities/art and small groups.

All Aide Staff employees are asked their age group preference and attempts are made to accommodate said preference. However, we cannot guarantee a schedule with that age group. Employees may be placed in any center classroom as deemed appropriate by administrative staff depending on center needs.
