Welcome to Spartan Child Development Center. It is a special place. Established in 1971, the center is dedicated to meeting the needs of children ages two weeks to six years in an environment that nurtures and guides their individual growth and development. We operate according to the philosophy that all children are unique, intrinsically good, and possess the ability to learn appropriate behaviors.
The center is committed to a multi-cultural, nonsexist, nonviolent, and inclusive atmosphere. Our curriculum is play-based and child-centered. Teachers develop weekly themes and lesson plans that support these ideals and expose children to worlds larger than their own. Exploration and creativity are encouraged, as is respect for the rights of others. Teachers foster the development of positive social skills including making and maintaining friendships, problem solving and conflict resolution.
Spartan Child Development Center is a self-supporting, not-for-profit corporation that has agency status with Michigan State University. The policy-making body is comprised of the board of directors, a representative group of parents, staff members and professionals from MSU and the community. Monthly board meetings are open to the public and parents and staff are encouraged to attend.
Parents are always welcome at the center. Please feel free to visit the center, meet the staff and pursue with us any questions you may have regarding the center and its philosophy.
Wishing you and your family every success,
Rosene Johnson
