SCDC supports the community by providing enriching, fun and informative events designed with the whole family in mind. Some of our annual events include:

International Night, held each April as part of our annual celebration of Michigan’s Month of the Young Child, is the magical night of melting pots and sharing of cultures, excellent food, talents and entertainment. It is a night where we celebrate the diversity that makes our community unique. Learn about the varying cultures, traditions and origins of many of our children, staff and families and experience global entertainment from local artists, dancers and performers.

The Ice Cream Social, held each August, is a time where new families and returning families have an opportunity to meet and greet. The Ice Cream Social serves as our kick-off event for the new school year. Typically held at a local East Lansing park, this event draws nearly 40-60 families each year.

Parent Education Seminars are held two to three times a year. These seminars provide information for families regarding their child’s development, and parenting tips and ideas. These are free and open to the public as well.

The Annual Health and Safety Fair is an event where local safety programs and organizations share information about child and family related health issues. Guests have included Michigan State Police Bicycle Safety program, Michigan State University Extension Food and Nutrition Program, MSU Health Team, local physicians, and a car seat safety clinic provided by representatives from AAA.

Each summer, families and staff come together to spruce up and clean the center during our Parent and Staff Volunteer Day and BBQ.
