The teachers’ goals for their children are to begin to recognize letters, numbers, shapes, and colors, as well as, using their words to express their feelings and solve problems. Many children also take an interest in potty training while in their classrooms.
Some of the favorite themes in the Red and Blue rooms include, music, ABC’s, animals, opposites, transportation, and camping.
The transition-aged students have a chance to participate in a variety of fun activities, including field trips, art exploration, musical yoga, texture experiences, dramatic play, and block building.
As an extension of the classroom, the transition teachers suggest parents sing with their children, discuss the themes at home and ask questions about what they have learned, look for familiar letters on containers, toys, or signs while driving, and develop math skills by cooking together and counting everyday objects like plates at the table or shoes by the door.
